Eight months after the BaSEF winter school in MENA Energy Transition took place in Egypt, ‘Energy Transition towards Sustainability: Renewable Energies and Synthetic Fuels a German and Egyptian Perspective’  summer school was conducted in Cologne, Germany from August 29th to September 3rd, 2022. The BaSEF project is a joint DAAD-funded cooperation between the Economics Department at Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ»ÆƬ, The American University in Cairo, and the University of Cologne. The goal of the summer school was to bring together eminent academics and young researchers in the field of energy and environmental economics and to tackle recent developments in the field and relevant policy issues. The programme placed a strong emphasis on scientific dialogue and intercultural interaction. It also addressed the interface between methodical knowledge transfer and applied research to equip the participants with the essential skill set for contributing to a successful energy transition towards sustainability. The programme gave special attention to the differences and similarities in the energy landscape and in the challenges facing the process of energy transition between Germany and Egypt. This is to stimulate fresh research concepts and help young scientists establish a global network.
