Closing of Capacity Building Programme
The last day of the Capacity Building Programme was dedicated to four of our High-Level Climate Champions. Mr. Stephen Davison, Director of Strategy at Cambridge Zero Higher Education Lead, focused on the role of universities in the global climate agenda because of their diversity, significant footprint, and considerable leverage. Mr. Mohamed Hegazy, Transport Lead, High-Level Climate Champion, and Director & General Manager for Transport in Cairo, gave an overview on sustainable transport and best practices in transportation, providing some examples from Egypt. Ms. Naira Hatem, Africa Race to Zero Connector, talked about the concept of Net Zero, how it was introduced, tracked, and assessed, what we aim to achieve with it and how, carbon accounting, net zero governance, and the Race to Zero Campaign. Ms. Lina Dabbagh, Senior Policy and Engagement Advisor (CSOs and Indigenous Peoples), gave an overview from COP28 to COP29, expectations for COP29 with a special focus on non-state actors, Presidency priorities and ‘The Five Pillars of Harmony,’ and the priority of 2024 Climate Champions to have an equitable, net zero, resilient, and a nature-positive world by 2050.
Previous COP27 and COP28 Simulation participants from Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ»ÆÆ¬, Ms. Jumana Megahed, Senior Political Science student, and Ms. Habiba Amr, Senior Economics student, shared their experience by guiding participants through the Declaration of COP28 Simulation, including its drafting and voting process, and its presentation at COP28 in Dubai.
Finally, Dr. Sarah El-Khishin, Director of Strategy Development and Head of the COP Simulation Model, guided participants through the next steps leading to the COP29 Mock Conference and COP29 in Baku. Dr. Elkhishin seized this opportunity to thank all participants for their valuable contribution to the success of the Programme.
