Faculty of Law Hosts First Regional IT Moot Court

The Faculty of Law at Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ»ÆÆ¬ has successfully concluded its first regional Information Technology Law Moot Court Competition, held from 10th to 14th August 2024. This landmark event brought together twenty-three teams from across the Middle East and Africa, focusing on the intersection of Information Technology Law and International Humanitarian Law.


The competition commenced with an opening ceremony, with a speech given by our President and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Mohamed Loutfi, and a distinguished conference, featuring prominent figures from the legal and political spheres. Among the esteemed guests were the President of the Senate, Dr Abdelwahab Abdelrazek, Chairman of the Financial Supervision Authority, Dr Mohamed Farid, and Vice President of the Supreme Constitutional Court, H.E. Mr Abdul Aziz Salman. Additionally, the event was honoured by the presence of H.E. Mr Khaled Al-Atris, Vice President of the State Council, H.E. Mr Abdul Hamid Al-Najashi, Vice Chairman of the State Issues Commission and member of the National Elections Committee, Mr Counselor Adly Hussein, Former Governor of Qalyubia, H.E. Mr Mohamed Abdel Latif, Vice President of the Court of Cassation and Director of International Relations, and H.E. Ambassador Yasmine Moussa, Legal Adviser to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Egypt, Professor Hassan Abdel Hameed, Dean of the Faculty of Law at Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ»ÆÆ¬ and Professor Mohamed Shouman, Dean of Faculty of Communication and Mass Media at Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ»ÆÆ¬. Their presence underscored the significance of the event, which serves as a crucial platform for legal discourse in the region.


Over the course of the three-day event, leading experts in Information Technology Law and International Humanitarian Law delivered insightful presentations, addressing the current challenges and developments in these critical fields. The Moot Court Competition itself focused on a hypothetical case exploring cybersecurity and social media liability during conflicts—a subject of increasing relevance in today’s digital era.


The competition brought together law students, academics, practitioners, and judges from across the region, all of whom engaged in profound legal debates. The event showcased the exceptional talent and expertise of participants, who demonstrated a deep understanding of complex legal issues.
The competition culminated in a grand gala dinner in Al Manial, where all participants gathered to celebrate the successful conclusion of this Moot Court. The dinner provided an opportunity for participants to network, exchange ideas, and reflect on the knowledge gained throughout the competition, marking a memorable end to the proceedings.
