The Political Science department, in collaboration with the Center for Egypt and Middle East Studies at the British University in Egypt, hosted an enlightening talk by Mr. Josep Ferre, the Anna Lindh Foundation's executive director, which was centered around the topic of intercultural dialogue and the solutions proposed by the foundation to overcome challenges in the region. At the outset, Ambassador Dr. Mahmoud Karem, Special Advisor to the President for Foreign Affairs and Director of the Center for Egypt and ME Studies, highlighted that the Ann Lindh Foundation plays a vital role in promoting intercultural dialogue in the Mediterranean region and empowering young voices by providing platforms to build together inclusive and resilient communities.
During the talk, Mr. Josep Ferre emphasized the importance of education, critical thinking, and the active role that youth can play in bringing about change.
He highlighted the potential and capabilities of young people to be agents of change and how their participation in dialogue and decision-making processes can lead to positive outcomes for their communities.
The talk was an excellent opportunity for Political Science students to learn about current political issues in the region and the practical solutions being proposed.
The students were enthralled by the insights shared and appreciated them. Strong emphasis was made by Mr. Ferre on the practical skills that are present and provided by the department and University at large to its students, which according to him are the main and most important element in change-making.
The director's focus on the role of youth in intercultural dialogue and conflict resolution was particularly inspiring, and it left the students feeling empowered and motivated to engage in similar initiatives.
Overall, the talk was a great success and a testament to the importance of fostering intercultural dialogue and collaboration in today's globalized world.
